Detroit Air Racing is comprised of local business leaders and who came together with the mission of returning air racing to the City of Detroit. Given the popularity of Red Bull Air Racing (RBAR) and Detroit's pioneering history in aviation and motor sports, hosting a Red Bull Air Race in Detroit is a natural winner for everyone.  Following extensive research on the feasibility of hosting air races in Detroit, we invited Red Bull North America days before Thanksgiving in 2007 and we learned of an open slot for 2008 and they’re coming back this summer June 13th and 14th for the second round.

Five days later, a 40-page proposal was delivered Red Bull Air Race GmbH in Salzburg, Austria, Red Bull’s international headquarters, proposing Detroit as a potential Host City. The proposal contained demographic information, letters of endorsement, Google earth images, an advisory board built over breakfast, sponsorship offerings, along with pages of information about Detroit's renaissance and history in aerospace. One week later, Red Bull's International Team arrived from Austria for a pre-location check. The team was picked up at Detroit Metro Airport and delivered into the City of Detroit via helicopter for an aerial tour and high impact introduction to nearly 20 key stakeholders at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center along the Detroit River. Unanimously, the idea was a hit.

Detroit Air Racing's task of "facilitating" relationships between Red Bull and all of Detroit's key stakeholders is done. Our mission now is to ensure the race is a success for spectators, local businesses, and the region at large. There are various ways your company can participate to support this exciting new chapter in Detroit's history, and we invite you to be apart of it. With your support, Red Bull Air Racing will become yet another major annual event for two cities of two separate nations to enjoy for years to come.

As other cities and countries around the world can attest, hosting a Red Bull Air Race World Series is much more than hosting a race; it establishes a global sporting legacy defining the host city as one of the global sporting venues.

Be a part of it!
